What Is A Money Manager?

A Money Manager, (a person or financial firm) manages securities portfolio(s) on behalf of their clients (individual or institutional investors). A Money Manager will  partner with a broker to implement investment strategies and manage trades on behalf of their clients, who are also clients of the broker. Money Managers can work as an individual or as a company, and they are typically advanced traders with expertise and experience. They are usually paid a set management fee by the account owners they trade on behalf of, as well as performance fees based on the highest value the managed accounts have ever reached (also known as high water).

Money Manager FAQs

PAMM (Percentage Allocation Management Module) is a popular system used by money managers to manage Forex trading on behalf of their clients. Money managers have a master account on the system that shows an aggregated balance of all the funds from the investor accounts they manage.  The money manager then trades based on the aggregated account balance, while each client receives their returns based on the percentage of  their total equity represented in the strategy.  This allows the PAMM manager to focus on one account, versus needing to manage multiple accounts and trades at the same time. Alchemy Markets is a multi-asset broker. Beyond forex, we offer 1000+ products across 10+ asset classes including Stocks*, Crypto*, Indices*, Commodities*, and ETFs* you will be able to trade on behalf of your clients.

Anyone can be a money manager with Alchemy Markets with the use of our PAMM and Copy Trading tools. The more experience a trader has and the better their trading performance, the easier it will be for them to grow their client base. Traders wondering how to become a money manager on a PAMM account can get started by creating a live account with us and reaching out to our team.

You can start a PAMM account with a broker. With Alchemy Markets, you will first need to sign up for a live account. Once you have verified your identity with us, you can request a PAMM account and set up your own unique introducer link and receive an LPOA form. When you have clients, you can manage their investor accounts on MetaTrader via PAMM or Copy Trading. You can promote your master account with our free marketing materials.

PAMM (Percentage Allocation Management Module) allows money managers to place master trades, and the Profit and Loss is distributed to their clients based on the percentage of their equity to the total equity in the master account. On the other hand, MAM (Multi-Account Management) allows money managers to place individual trades on a per account basis. They can adjust the risk of each sub-account based on clients’ risk profiles, including changing the amount of leverage applied if their clients want to take on a greater or smaller level of risk.

Yes. As a money manager, you will be able to trade Forex on behalf of your investors when you have a PAMM account with a Forex broker. Alchemy Markets provide 125 Forex pairs for trading, with tight spreads, institutional liquidity and execution speeds of <10ms, as well as free access to advanced tools from Trading Central and FXBlue.

PAMM accounts are only as safe as the broker you choose to open your account with. At Alchemy Markets, your funds are fully segregated in a Tier-1 bank. Traders should understand that PAMM accounts are not always profitable, depending on the investment decisions money managers make.**

An LPOA (Limited Power of Attorney) is an authorisation that permits a money manager to perform specific functions on behalf of their investors. It also details an agreement on fees and profit sharing structures. An LPOA allows the money manager to execute trades on investors’ accounts, gain access to their account information, and take care of routine related business without contacting the account owner. It does not allow the money manager to withdraw money from the investor’s account, change its beneficiaries, or any other exceptions specified by the account owner. As a money manager, you must ensure that your clients sign an LPOA before you trade on their behalf.

Copy Trading is a form of automated trading that enables traders to copy positions and specific strategies of other traders. At Alchemy Markets, you can participate in Copy Trading on MetaTrader as a money manager and receive a unique signup link. When traders sign up via your link, they become your clients, and they can automatically copy your trading strategies for a fee. Your clients can also adjust their risk settings such as using lower leverage or lot size limits and only partially copy your trades. As a money manager, you will be able to access a robust, real-time dashboard where you can track, monitor, and review all trading activity on one single interface. You do not need special software, configuration, or other tools to start copy trading, and our average replication speed is 50ms, which is some of the fastest among copy trading solutions.
